Emojis are often used on social media to increase engagement. They express emotions easier and faster than any words ever could. But these small symbols are not restricted only to social media. As a study by Experian showed, emojis in an email subject line can increase its open rate. The most popular symbol used in emails is a black heart, but it is far from the most effective one. The emojis that resulted in the highest boost in the open rate were umbrellas, aeroplanes and sun with rays. These could possibly be connected in people’s minds with holidays, which as a result, made them more likely to open the email.
